Augmented Reality

When and Why Was it Made?

Augmented reality is the bridge between seeing both Virtual and Literal reality. It works to give a perpesctive on things that would take much longer to do if it were say in your house like a couch or a sofa. AR brings the dimensions and perpective together all in your phone. Augmented Reality dates all the way back to 1957, though it wouldn't really be used until recent times, more specifically 2016, when Pokemon GO came out running into fame. Augmented reality would then be used to catch little monsters in the Pokemon Universe, but had much more to it then just a game gimmick. It was made originally to help improve navigation of plane rides but is used in so many modern ways, waiting for itself to be developed further by time.

Uses Across The World

Across the world, Augmented reality has expanded their use across multiple platforms. Aside for the general gimmick from Pokemon GO, able to play with the pocket monster world but it has expanded to things such as finding dimensions across furniture, general navigation and a lot more. The 3 most notable at the moment are assistance in the Automotive industry, setting and creating Augmented reality events, and in the Surgery business as of this year. In the case of the Automotive industry, the AR technology is used to aid in driving by integrating it into the car's HUD. Any Potential Hazards could be shown with ease. Espcially with Surgeries is AR used as in the early months of 2021, John Hopkins had succesfully done the first AR surgery on a live patient for a spinal fusion surgery. As John Hopkins said "When using augmented reality in the operating room, it’s like having a GPS navigator in front of your eyes in a natural way so you don’t have to look at a separate screen to see your patient’s CT scan.".

Potential and Commerical Use

Market Prices are on the rise for this up and coming new thing and with the amount of things applicable about said trend. Currently the market has a price of 15.3 billion for AR and the price is predicted to rise up. Devices heavy in AR were sold in the millions in 2020, more specifically 598 million units, and by 2024, that number will seemingly change to 1.73 billion. 9 out of 10 brand marketers are planning to use AR to further their marketing campaigns, and companies like IKEA and such are using the technology to further the experience for the average customer.
